Located at the east bank of Dianshan Lake with 65kms from the city center, 45kms from Hongqiao Airport in Shanghai, China, Daguanyuan is a combination of archaized complex and modern garden. The present Daguanyuan is the replica of the magnificent garden of an imperial family described in the well-known Chinese novel “A Dream of Rea Mansions” by a Qing Dynasty writer Cao Xueqin (1715-1763).
Covering an area of 1,600 acres, Daguanyuan is separated into two parts-East and West by Qingshang Road.
On the East, the view of plants is the main attractions featuring the natural scene of water village. “Meiwuchunnong” is at the northeast holding more than 4,000 plums with area of 190 acres. On the West is the courtyard of the characters in the novel lived. Yihongyuan (Happy Red Cout), used to be the residence of Jia Baoyu, hero of the novel.
